The Next Stage in Human Development Through Science Fiction

I set my stories of science fiction in the surrounding solar system, hoping to inspire humanity to reach beyond the confines of our planet and achieve a shared destiny among the stars.

What this fiction is about

All the problems of the planet Earth, overpopulation, lack of resources, climate change, etc. can be resolved by reaching out into the galaxy around our world. The Infinite Creator made a vast universe and we should stake our claim.

The Setting: Earth Solar System, Twenty-fourth Century

Humanity has evolved as a species. Global conflicts, racism, sexism, are all terms that belong to the past. Now if you hate someone, you do so personally, not as an abstract. Humans have spread throughout the solar system, reaching out to every other planet, most often in underground colonies. What good is living on the surface of a planet you can not survive on anyway? Almost every hunk of floating rock in the asteroid belt has been stripped for any resource available, and around the gas giants are floating atmosphere mines. Even the distant Kuiper Belt has been reached by the colonizing robots, building the habitats for people to follow. The most valuable resource in the earth system, the one no colony can do without, is water, which is why strict laws prevent any shipping of water from Earth.

Earth, the home world, has become what people used to call a paradise. The population is strictly controlled to remain at four billion, and humans have increased their lifespans to regularly live well past one hundred years old. All human dwellings are contained within forty cities spread across the globe, maintained with crystal shields, and containing one hundred million people each. The forty cities rise miles above the surface of the world, and deep below it in subterranean levels. All human comforts are found within the forty cities. Everywhere else on the planet is left to wild nature and non-human life, and many formerly extinct species have been reintroduced to the biosphere to live again. Humanity is strictly monitored and controlled on Earth, and any human found outside one of the cities without a permit is subject to incarceration and possible execution, called recycling. It is common knowledge among humanity that the only place to live free is outside of Earth.

Communication and stores of knowledge are maintained through the Solar System Information Service, a network generated by the crystal shields of the Earth cities that spreads throughout the entire solar system. The SSIS, or as it is commonly known, the Big Sis, is accessed through brain computers grafted to human infants at one year of age. All machines and devices are connected to the SSIS and are utilized through thought with a brain computer, eliminating the need for complex artificial intelligence. Only the ruling class of people on Earth, called Management, understand how the SSIS works. All most people know is that anytime they want to know something, all they have to do is think it, and the Big Sis sends that information directly into their brain.
